Permits & Council Approval – Brisbane Council
Some trees are classed under protected vegetation in Brisbane’s Natural Assets Local Law (NALL). This can include significant urban trees, protected native vegetation, waterway/wetland vegetation, and anything on Council land. If your tree is protected, you will likely need a permit before works.
Shane’s Trees can assist you in this process by verifying the status and arrange for an AQF-qualified arborist report, and facilitate the necessary paperwork.

Here are some FAQ’s from our Brisbane Customers
Most suburban removals fall between $550 and $1,800, with complex or large trees higher. You can see our basic ranges above, but we will give you a firm written quote after a site visit.
Maybe. If it’s protected vegetation under NALL or covered by a VPO, you’ll likely need a permit before works. Non-protected trees generally don’t need approval. Ask us to check for you.
NALL is Council’s local law that protects key natural assets—bushland, wetlands, waterway corridors and significant trees in urban/rural areas. It sets out when permits are required and the standards for works.
A VPO is a legal order that can protect vegetation on private land if it meets certain values (biodiversity, landscape, cultural/historical). Street and park trees are protected automatically.
Minor street-tree pruning approvals can be immediate; other protected-vegetation applications are typically acknowledged within business weeks and processed by Council thereafter. Actual timeframe is Council-dependent.
If you choose, we grind the stump to below ground level and tidy the area. Stump grinding is priced separately (from $120 for small stumps; large hardwood stumps higher).
Yes—safely and in accordance with electrical safety requirements. We’ll coordinate where needed and may recommend specific methods (EWP, sectional dismantle, or crane).
Yes to both. We chip and remove waste or leave mulch neatly on-site if you’d like it for gardens.
Absolutely. Our crews are qualified arborists, and we maintain comprehensive cover including public liability. Ask us for certs anytime.
Fast Brisbane Tree Quotes
One of our friendly team members will get back to you before you can say ‘timber’!
Some factors that might affect your quote…
The size of your tree. Generally, the bigger it is, the longer it takes to remove – and the more space vegetation takes up in our trucks!
Ease of access. Trees around properties with steep embankments are often difficult to load onto vehicles.
Equipment needed. Certain projects require the use of barges, cranes and even helicopters which may be reflected in your quote.
