Common Questions About Tree Removal in Bowral
It depends on the size of the tree, how easy it is to reach and how much rigging it needs. As a rough guide, trees under 5 metres usually cost $300 to $800, trees of 5 to 15 metres $800 to $2,500, and trees over 15 metres $2,500 to $5,000 or more. Usually, yes. Wingecarribee Shire Council protects every tree in the Shire unless it’s an invasive species, and the approval depends on the job. Dead, dying or dangerous trees can go through a Tree Removal Exemption (TREX), up to five trees in 12 months. Healthy trees need a Vegetation Clearing Permit, up to ten trees in 12 months, with an arborist report. More than ten trees, trees on a heritage item or in a heritage conservation area, and trees on council’s Significant Tree Register generally need a development application. Council doesn’t count a plant as a tree if it’s under 6 metres tall and its trunk measures less than 500 mm around at 1.4 metres above the ground. Anything bigger is protected unless it’s on the invasive species list. Hedges, roses and fruit trees can usually be pruned as routine maintenance without a permit.
Making a damaged tree safe, such as taking down broken or hanging limbs, generally doesn’t need approval. Removing the whole tree is different. If it’s now dangerous, an AQF Level 5 consulting arborist has to confirm that before it can go under a TREX. Take photos before anything is touched, keep people clear and give us a call.
Possibly. Under the NSW 10/50 rules, if your property sits in a 10/50 vegetation clearing entitlement area you can remove trees within 10 metres of a home without council approval.
