Depends on the tree. The size thresholds are: over 5 metres tall, over 5 metres crown width, or trunk over 500mm circumference — that’s a regulated tree. Below that, generally fine to remove without approval. For regulated trees you’re looking at a permit or an applicable exemption. Ring us and we can help you work out which applies.
A Shoalhaven-specific exemption allowing tree removal without a permit where the tree sits within a 45 degree angle from an approved building. Named after a local resident who died when a tree fell on his home in 1998. Conditions apply — notification to Council and neighbours, and works carried out by a qualified arborist.
